Baron Pierre de Coubertin report: Nicky

Who wants to know who Baron Pierre De Coubertin is? Well I happened to learn all about him. Baron Pierre De Coubertin is famous for reviving / bringing back the Olympic games.

When Baron Pierre De Coubertin was growing up, he was brought up in a rich French family. Baron was born on new years day ( January first ) in 1863, plus he was the fourth child. His dad was an artist and sold his paintings on a display in Parisian salons. Also his mum was a musician. His relationships between his parents was unfortunately strained.

He went to law school for awhile then left after a year. Soon Baron went to another department and learnt more about science and politics. He  had an interest in Sports and education. Once he went to England and met a person called William Penny Brooks, and together they studied the history of the Olympics Games ( which we call ‘ancient Olympic Games’ )   and started a good series of sporting festivals .

Once Baron was the Nd president of the international Olympic committee.

Sadly Baron died in 1937, in September 2nd when he was just 74 in Geneva, Genève, Switzerland.

2012 Olympic Medal tally chart: Nicola

Hi, as you should know by now the OLYMPICS have been happening over  the past 2 weeks! I have had so much fun watching all of the events and competitions. At school, our teacher has placed kids in groups for each country, ( Great Britain, U.S.A, New Zealand,  Australia, and China. ) My  country is Great Britain.  Each group has a tally chart of how many medals each country has won. Nearly everyone in my class has made a graph of those 5 countries including all of the Gold, Silver and Bronze medals, I think that all of the countries tried their best in the events they were in. Did you know that China has 104 medals?, They really put their effort in the Olympics because they train everyday and they also never give up, America has 84 medals, they came second with the highest  number of medals, I think China and America has the most medals because they are hard workers and the U.S.A has a humongous population ( 314,154,000 ). England / Great Britain comes third with the highest number of medals which is 65, I reckon they were lucky to have that amount of medals plus they probably train regally. Australia has 35 medals, wow that's more than New Zealand and they have a nice warm climate so they can train more. Canada has 18 medals, and New Zealand has 13 medals.  New Zealand sure made us proud. I think that New Zealand did well in the rowing and canoeing because in New Zealand we have a lot of water, rivers and lakes plus the athletes can practice their sport in the water.  Here's my graph on those six countries.
